ZeoTraction increases winter road maintenance effectiveness

Snow plowing is not enough

Mechanical snow plowing represents a basic precondition of winter road maintenance. If vehicles and pedestrians are faster than road workers, snow remains rammed down and often becomes very slippery. This causes the biggest winter hazards in the form of accidents, falls and injuries. Even a small amount of snow in cities with rush traffic slows it down and icy surfaces cause problems for drives and pedestrians. Therefore the roads and pavements´ surfaces must be treated quickly and effectively, as well as in eco-friendly manner.

Road maintenance is not a simple task

Mechanical snow treatment consists of spreading material on the surface in order to increase the road winter maintenance effectiveness. Technical salt is often used as a road spreading material. Its effects on slippery and icy surfaces are guaranteed down to approx. – 7 °C, at lower temperature it cannot be ensured. However, salt adversely affects environment; contaminates soil and it is toxic to vegetation and soil animals. Upon snow thawing, water flowing from the roads and entering soil can reach salt concentration comparable to sea water. If penetrating in soil, salt increases chlorine concentration in the distance 4 – 5 m from the road edge but can spread up to 100 m distance from the application area because of chloride motion properties. Spreading salt is harmful also for animals. Direct contact of animal paws with salt or salt-contaminated water causes pain or injury to paws. Affecting vehicle wheels, salt could cause damage to car body paint, chassis and tires. Water with salt is detrimental also for road surface, concrete and paving.

Effects of inert material ZeoTraction

Natural inert spreading material can be used as replacement for technical salt not only in areas of protected nature. It makes the surface of icy roads rougher, reducing slippery conditions. Its extract doesn´t affect the soil and water, nor does it increase atmospheric dust rates. Ecological spreading material ZeoTraction has adsorption properties compared to other inert materials. It adsorbs water from the surroundings, reducing risk of ice buildup on the roads with spread material.  ZeoTraction is able to absorb eventual road contamination with oil or other harmful substances. Zeolite properties allow application of ZeoTraction after roads cleaning upon winter season, ending in the form of soil conditioner, provided that the spreading material has not been contaminated with oil or other harmful substances.

ZeoTraction Ultra makes roads rougher and defrosts them

ZeoTraction Ultra is more suitable variant of ecological road spreading at temperatures deep below the freezing point. Along with making roads rougher, the material is capable of defrosting snow and ice, and thus effectively treats the roads and public premises down to – 20 °C. It performs as an efficient defrosting, anti-freezing and roughing spreading material. It doesn´t damage roads or vegetation, nor is it harmful to animals, car bodies or road surfaces.
